PRE-IVED OPEN DEBATING TOURNAMENT 2011

“PRE-IVED OPEN DEBATING TOURNAMENT 2011”
Open Tournament, 15-16 January 2011
At University of Hasanuddin

IVED is coming to town !
As the oldest and biggest nationwide varsities English debate, Indonesian Varsities English Debate (IVED) has been considered as the most prestigious tournament for the whole Indonesian varsity students. As the only national debate championship which adopts Australasian Format, IVED offers Indonesian debaters a platform to experience debates which put weightier emphasis on philosophical reasoning and principles. However due to the nature of IVED, IVED is specifically segmented to and only to varsity debaters.

Having been determined as the host of the upcoming IVED 2011, Hasanuddin University students wish to open this same precious opportunity to experience IVED not only to varsity debaters, but also to high school debaters and alumnae. There goes the idea of Pre-IVED Open Debating Tournament.

This tournament is open to varsity student, polytechnic student, high school student, and vocational student. We will not separate the competition between varsity/polytechnic student and high school/vocational student, so they will compete in one pool of competition. Our reason not to segregate them is to maximize the competition and give chance to high school/vocational student to enhance their quality by competing with varsity/polytechnic student.

Basically, in this tournament, you can compete on behalf of your
1.     Department (e.g: Medical UNHAS, English UNISMUH, Science Class SMADA, Social Class SMANSA)
2.     Faculty (e.g : Engineering UNHAS, Social and Politics UNM, Ilmu Budaya UMI, Accounting PNUP)
3.     University or high school (ex : UNHAS, STIMIK Dipanegara, Politani Pangkep, SMAN 1 Makassar)
You also compete as composite team and use your own institution’s name (and also eligible to break). Composite team means that in one team may consist of more than one institution. For example
1.     Team SMASH (Ayu SMADA, Aini UNM, Miranda STIKES)
2.     Team SUPER JUNIOR (Aminah STIEM, Aca UNHAS Emiral STIKES)

Format of competition is Australasians Parliamentary (each team consist of 3 speakers) and will use “break and slide” match-up system and the standing will be determined by Victory Point – Score – Margin.

Total team cap is 20 teams and each institution can send their delegation without limit. So, for example SMAN 17 MKS can send more than 3 teams, and so on. As long as this institution can successfully complete their registration, it is valid for them to send unlimited number of teams. However, each institution can only have maximum 3 (three) teams in breaking rounds.

We will have 3 (three) pre-eliminary rounds and 3 (three) elimination rounds starts from Quarterfinal, Semifinal and Grand Final.
